COULD THERE BE ANY OTHER MEANING TO THIS VERSE?
26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgement and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries
28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
29 Of how mush sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath troden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the spirit of grace?
(Hebrews 10: 26-29 KJV)
This is one verse many believers rarely read or some may even be ignorant of, we had better be careful How we over abuse and wonder out of context our message of grace and eternal security; we can as well meditate on this verse
but, remember this:
6 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
( 2 Timothy 3:16 KJV)
20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
(2 Peter 1: 20-21 KJV)
Any message of grace that teaches an unconditional eternal security is disputing the fact that man is a free moral agent; it is so ironic how we believers misrepresent the love of God attesting that as long as you have accepted Christ as your personal Lord and saviour, that nor matter what you do you will still be saved. I have heard some people go as far as saying even if you killed someone you are still safe; Mind you,the love of God is so vividly explained in the book of John 3:16: '' For God so love the world that He sent His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life''
His love is that He sent His Son to be the sacrificial lamb for the everlasting atonement of your sins. God's love is enforced in two phases:
the first is the legality of His word being the final judgement and requirement for salvation,
and the second is the Vitality of His word which has nothing to do with Him but balls down to you and I who are to first believe His son and repent of our sins and live on by His grace endeavouring to keep our minds renewed with the reality of the new nature which is no more moved by sensuality but by the Spirit of God that we bear good fruits which fruits are the nine fruit of the spirit :
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
(Galathians 5:22-23) against all these there is no law which means it is not enough to receive Christ as Lord and saviour alone, but also a core duty for us to renew our minds with the manual of what is expected of our new nature from the bible and lastly to walk in the Spirit which is the part many believers never get to. the bible says: ''16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh''
( Galathians 5:16) and the lust of the flesh has to do with all the sinful nature of man even before and after He is saved; mind you: '' man is a Spirit that has a soul and also lives in a Body''
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Thessalonians 5:2 KJV)
More so, the first part of your salvation happened to your Spirit man and the second part of your salvation is the one that requires your effort which is the one that happens to your soul: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (Romans 12:1-2 KJV) in this second stage you are commanded to keep your body and soul under check relying on the grace of God which is able to keep you holy and standing tall above sin, for if it was not possible to stand above sin the bible wouldn't have said: '' And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as He (Christ) is pure.
4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as He (Christ) is righteous.
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. (1 John 3:3-8 KJV) But the last phase of our salvation shall be at the coming of Christ himself where mortality shall put on Immortality:
51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. ( 1 Corinthians 15: 51-53 KJV) now you can tell what stage we are, we are surely at the second stage where we make effort to keep our bodies sanctified and our souls purified by the indisputable word of truth in the Bible; but knowing that we can do nothing on our own to be saved but, that we have been admitted to the school of our salvation where we are to walk out our salvation with fear and trembling relying on the finish work of Christ.
If grace was such a license then God would be an unjust God and then the message of Grace would have become the message of license to sin.
selah!
